Eclectic [Digital]
Unexpected announcement in the Timeline...

Starting on March 31st, 2026, NGNVNF introduced a rolling series of writing prompts suitable for all levels of writer across multiple formats, under the heading of 'Eclectic'. This week, we will share our first L3 prompts with you, with a view to opening a Submission Window for the Inaugural Eclectic [Digital] magazine on October 1st.

Hang on, WHAT?

This week in the UK it is time for Assemblies in Wales and Scotland and local councils in England to have elections. Things, as you will know, are quite grim here for a lot of people, and there is a real chance that The Empire [*] will start taking over spaces that they did not previously have control of. I am here to remind people of what happens when inertia and ignorance allow evil in.

I'm also 60 this year and can see my own clock ticking away, without much interest in my work from traditional publishing. So, it occurs to me that the answer to not seeing other people like me being given the space and time they require to flourish is to create a space where that can happen for other people and gain joy from that instead. That's what Eclectic is being built to do: a fresh start. A new hope ^^

This idea has been talked about this with friends, as it transpires, for months.

There is a LOT wrapped up in this idea, most of which we will not talk about until September. There will be an opportunity to be paid for work. There will be a subscription model. However for now there is the business of getting this year's work done and dusted, rebranding a few spaces, and then laying the groundwork for some Crowdfunding next year.

I have never been more aware than I am now of the value of hope for people. It matters that your work can be heard, and that you can use art to make difficult times feel less stressful and more meaningful. It is my hope that Eclectic (and that logo may well alter before October) will give the opportunity to bridge a gap between zine culture and more traditional online literary magazines, with a twist.

The plan is to NOT just do what everybody else is. Trust me on this.
