Today would have been a day, in the past, in which we ate a whole cake...

So yeah, this project is an antidote to poor mental health...

It's time to change the direction of this space for a while, starting with a daily poem. The warmup has served me well over the last few years, and with some major changes on the way here in October, it is time to practice what I keep preaching. This gives space for new ideas to flourish and old wood to be quietly cut away. We'll be doing this therefore until the 30th, by which time everything happening in the background will be ready for you. Thanks for reading.

One Cake

not a slice / nor a properly measured / out
proportion
but the whole damn thing / eaten alone
consumed / before the kids got home
so there were / no questions
surrounding / the consequences / how
unhealthy
such a foolish undertaking / that
comfort eating
was then a metaphor / for so much else
not a walk outside / a bike ride / a coffee morning
no friends you felt close enough / to confide in
you were a walking aberration / that as a kid
sugar was both bribe and medication / now a
revelation
is enough / to break you more / than you ever were / before
so as it was yesterday / there is a space
that before did not exist / not to fill / but to respect
consideration / as grace / to empty yourself out
pulling down / badly built walls / accepting that
consequence
can also / make you sick
anguish
is not worth feeding / so it is time / to stop
do something literal / heavy lifting / boxing
find constructive ways / to pull the anger out
it never needed / any more fuel / instead
proportion
a sense of scale / of ability / of worth
